Cosmetic Dentistry in Bandra West, Mumbai
Cosmetic dentistry covers treatments that change how teeth look — their colour, shape, alignment and proportion. At Bliss Skin & Dental Polyclinic in Bandra West, cosmetic work is planned by Dr. Farhan Parkar, MDS (Orthodontics), which matters because many concerns described as cosmetic are actually about position, and moving a tooth is usually more conservative than cutting one down. The options are set out from least invasive to most, and the least invasive one that achieves your goal is the one recommended.
Benefits of cosmetic dentistry
- Options presented from least invasive to most, so you can choose knowing what each costs you in tooth structure
- Planned by an MDS orthodontist, so tooth position is treated as a genuine alternative to cutting teeth down
- Foundations — decay, gums and bite — are dealt with before anything cosmetic
- A trial mock-up before irreversible work on extensive cases
- Treatment sequenced correctly, so shades match and restorations are not made twice
- Realistic expectations set before treatment rather than explained afterwards
Areas treated
- Upper front teeth — the six to ten teeth most visible when you smile
- Lower front teeth, visible in some smiles and in speech
- Premolars, which show in a wide smile more often than people expect
- The gum line, where uneven contour or a gummy smile is the real issue
- The bite, which governs how long any cosmetic work survives
Conditions treated
Concerns treated:
- Discoloured, yellowed or stained teeth
- Chipped, worn or fractured edges
- Gaps and spacing between teeth
- Crowded or crooked teeth
- Teeth that are uneven in size, shape or proportion
- Old discoloured fillings and visible restorations at the front
- An uneven gum line or a smile that shows a lot of gum
- Teeth worn short by grinding or acid erosion
- A single tooth that is darker than its neighbours
The procedure, step by step
How a cosmetic plan is put together
- Find out what specifically bothers you — patients often point at the wrong tooth, and it is worth establishing what you actually want changed
- Check the foundations: decay, gum health and bite are dealt with before anything cosmetic
- Photographs, shade records and, where useful, a digital mock-up
- Present the options from least to most invasive, with what each costs in tooth structure and in money
- Sequence the treatment: whitening first, then restorations matched to the new shade
Downtime and recovery
Downtime varies with the route taken:
- Whitening: none. Sensitivity to cold for a few days
- Bonding: none. Avoid strongly staining food and drink for 48 hours
- Veneers and crowns: temporaries for one to three weeks; sensitivity, and care with hard food
- Orthodontics: no downtime, but months of appliance wear
- Gum contouring: soft tissue healing over one to two weeks
- Whatever the route, a night guard is part of the plan if you grind
Results timeline
Being realistic
- Cosmetic dentistry does not last forever. Veneers, bonding and crowns all need maintenance and eventual replacement
- Very white, perfectly uniform teeth look artificial in person even when they photograph well
- Restorations do not respond to whitening. Whiten first, then match
- Grinding shortens the life of every cosmetic restoration; if you grind, a night guard is part of the plan
- Healthy gums are a bigger contributor to an attractive smile than most people expect
Cost of cosmetic dentistry in Bandra
Bliss does not publish treatment prices. A figure quoted before an assessment is a guess, and a published price goes stale and then misleads. You are given a written estimate after the examination and before treatment starts, and you are told before anything changes.
What the figure reflects:
- Which treatments the plan actually requires — the range across whitening, bonding, veneers and orthodontics is very wide
- How many teeth are being treated
- Materials and laboratory work
- Whether foundation treatment — decay, gum disease, bite correction — is needed first
- Whether a mock-up and digital planning stage is included
- Maintenance and eventual replacement, which should be in any honest comparison
Cosmetic dentistry compared with the alternatives
Start with the least invasive option that works
This is the principle that should govern every cosmetic dental decision, and it is the one most often skipped. Whitening removes no tooth structure at all. Bonding removes almost none. Orthodontics removes none — it repositions what you have. Veneers require permanent enamel reduction. Crowns require the most.
A very common example: teeth that look uneven because they are slightly crowded. Veneering them produces a fast, photogenic result and permanently reduces several healthy teeth. Aligning them takes longer and removes nothing. Both are legitimate; only one is reversible in principle, and you should be told that before you choose.
Risks, suitability and important considerations
What the treatments do
Teeth whitening
Changes the shade of the natural tooth without removing structure. The starting point for most colour concerns, and the step that has to come before any restoration is shade-matched.
Composite bonding
Tooth-coloured composite shaped directly onto the tooth to repair chips, close small gaps or improve proportion. Minimal or no tooth removal, done in a single visit, and reversible in most cases.
Dental veneers
Thin ceramic facings bonded to the front of the teeth. The most powerful cosmetic option for colour, shape and minor position together — and irreversible, because enamel must be removed.
Orthodontics
Braces or aligners to correct position. Slower than veneers, and it removes no tooth structure whatsoever. For alignment concerns in otherwise healthy teeth, this is usually the more conservative answer.
Crowns
Full coverage, used where a tooth is already heavily broken down or root-treated rather than for appearance alone.
Gum contouring
Reshaping the gum line where teeth look short or the smile shows a lot of gum. [CONFIRM availability.]

Frequently asked questions
Veneers or braces for crooked teeth?
Braces or aligners move the teeth you have and remove no tooth structure. Veneers are faster but require permanently reducing healthy enamel. For alignment alone, orthodontics is the more conservative answer, and having an orthodontist plan the case means you get that option put to you properly.
How long does cosmetic treatment take?
Whitening and bonding are days to a couple of weeks. Veneers take a few weeks. Orthodontics takes months. It depends entirely on which route suits your case.
Will it look natural?
That is a planning decision. Shade, translucency, surface texture and proportion are all chosen, and the honest conversation about how white is too white happens before treatment, not after.
Do I have to whiten first?
If whitening is part of the plan, yes. Restorations do not change colour afterwards, so they are matched to the final shade.
Is cosmetic dentistry permanent?
No. Bonding, veneers and crowns all have a finite life and will need maintaining and eventually replacing. Enamel removed for a veneer, however, does not come back.
What if I only dislike one tooth?
Then treating one tooth may be all that is needed — though matching a single restoration to natural neighbours is the hardest job in dentistry and worth taking time over.
