Composite Bonding in Bandra West, Mumbai
Composite bonding shapes tooth-coloured resin directly onto the tooth to repair a chip, close a small gap, lengthen a worn edge or improve proportion. It is usually completed in a single appointment, frequently requires little or no enamel removal, and can often be adjusted or removed later. At Bliss Skin & Dental Polyclinic in Bandra West it is offered as the conservative alternative to veneers wherever it will achieve what the patient wants.
Benefits of composite bonding
- Usually little or no irreversible tooth preparation — its single biggest advantage over veneers
- Completed in one appointment, with no laboratory stage and no temporaries
- Substantially less expensive than porcelain
- Repairable — a chip can be added to rather than the whole restoration replaced
- Often reversible, which makes it a genuine way to trial a change in shape
- Frequently needs no anaesthetic at all
Why it is often the better first choice
- Little or no irreversible tooth preparation in many cases
- One appointment, no laboratory, no temporaries
- Significantly less expensive than porcelain
- Repairable — a chip can be added to rather than replaced
- A way of testing a change in shape before committing to something permanent
Areas treated
- Chipped or fractured edges of upper front teeth
- Small gaps between front teeth, including a modest midline diastema
- Worn incisal edges
- Narrow, pointed or malformed teeth being reshaped
- Exposed root surfaces at the gumline
- Localised discolouration on a single tooth
Conditions treated
What bonding can do
- Repair chipped or fractured front teeth
- Close small gaps, including a modest midline diastema
- Rebuild worn or uneven incisal edges
- Reshape a tooth that is narrow, pointed or malformed
- Mask localised discolouration that whitening has not resolved
- Cover exposed root surfaces at the gumline
The procedure, step by step
The tooth surface is cleaned and lightly conditioned, an adhesive applied, and composite placed in layers, each set with a curing light. The shape is built up, then contoured, adjusted against the bite and polished. Anaesthetic is often not needed at all where no preparation is involved.
Whitening, if you want it, must come first — composite is matched to your current shade and will not lighten later.
Downtime and recovery
Looking after bonding
- Avoid biting nails, pens and packaging, and do not use your front teeth as tools
- Reduce staining exposure in the first 48 hours particularly
- Wear a night guard if you grind
- Non-abrasive toothpaste; avoid charcoal and heavy whitening pastes, which dull the surface
- Have it polished at routine appointments to maintain the lustre
Results timeline
- Same appointment: the result is complete and functional when you leave
- First 48 hours: avoid strongly staining food and drink while the surface settles
- Weeks to months: no change — composite is stable once cured
- Around 5–7 years typically, before refreshing or replacement
- Routine appointments: polishing to restore lustre as the surface dulls
Cost of composite bonding in Bandra
Bliss does not publish treatment prices. A figure quoted before an assessment is a guess, and a published price goes stale and then misleads. You are given a written estimate after the examination and before treatment starts, and you are told before anything changes.
What the figure reflects:
- The number of teeth being treated
- How much build-up each tooth requires — an edge repair and a full reshape are different pieces of work
- Whether whitening is being done first
- The complexity of the shade match, which is hardest on a single front tooth
- Periodic polishing and eventual refreshing, typically after around five to seven years
Composite bonding compared with the alternatives
Where it falls short
- Stains over time, more so with tea, coffee, tobacco and paan
- Less strong than porcelain and more prone to chipping at biting edges
- Typically lasts around five to seven years before it needs refreshing
- Loses surface lustre over time and benefits from periodic polishing
- Cannot correct significant crowding or rotation — that is orthodontics
- Cannot lighten a tooth beyond a certain point without becoming opaque
Bonding, veneers or orthodontics?
For a chip or a small gap, bonding is usually the right first answer. For substantial colour change across many teeth, porcelain lasts longer and looks better. For teeth that are out of position, orthodontics removes nothing and is the more conservative route. It is a genuine spectrum and you should be shown where your case sits on it.

Frequently asked questions
How long does composite bonding last?
Typically around five to seven years before it needs refreshing or replacing, depending on position, bite and habits.
Does it damage the tooth?
In many cases little or no enamel is removed, which is its main advantage over veneers. Where minor shaping is needed it is minimal.
Will it stain?
Composite picks up stain over time, more so with tea, coffee, tobacco and paan. Polishing at routine appointments helps considerably.
Is it painful?
Usually not, and often no anaesthetic is needed where no preparation is involved.
Can bonding be removed?
Generally yes, and where no enamel was removed the tooth returns close to its original state — which is precisely why it is a good way to trial a change.
Bonding or veneers?
Bonding for chips, small gaps and single teeth. Porcelain for substantial colour change across multiple teeth where longevity matters more than reversibility.
Can I whiten afterwards?
The composite will not lighten. Whiten first, then match the bonding to the new shade.
