Smile Designing in Bandra West, Mumbai
Smile designing is the planning process behind a cosmetic dental result: analysing how your teeth, gums, lips and face relate to each other, agreeing what should change, and then choosing the combination of treatments that achieves it with the least intervention. At Bliss Skin & Dental Polyclinic in Bandra West it is planned by Dr. Farhan Parkar, MDS (Orthodontics). The planning is the treatment — the veneers or the whitening are just how the plan gets executed.
Benefits of smile designing
- The whole smile is planned as one result rather than treated tooth by tooth
- A trial mock-up placed on your own teeth before anything irreversible is done
- Proportion, midline, gum contour and lip relationship are assessed, not just tooth colour
- Planned by an orthodontist, so alignment is offered where it would avoid cutting teeth down
- Treatment sequenced so shades match and work is not repeated
- The bite is assessed, which is what determines whether the result lasts
Areas treated
- Upper front six to ten teeth — the core aesthetic zone
- Lower front teeth where they show in speech or a full smile
- Gum line and gum symmetry
- Midline relationship between the teeth and the face
- Smile line against the lower lip
- Posterior bite, where the result is protected or destroyed
Conditions treated
What a smile design addresses:
- Teeth that are discoloured, uneven or disproportionate
- Gaps, crowding and midline discrepancies
- Worn or shortened front teeth
- An uneven or excessive gum line
- A smile line that does not follow the lower lip
- Old restorations that no longer match
- Missing teeth in the visible zone
- A bite that is damaging the front teeth and will damage anything built on them
The procedure, step by step
What is actually assessed
- Facial proportions and the midline of the face against the midline of the teeth
- How much tooth and gum show when you speak and when you smile
- The curve of the upper teeth against the lower lip
- Tooth proportion, width-to-height ratio and the relationship between the front teeth
- Gum contour and symmetry
- Shade, translucency and surface texture
- The bite, and whether it will damage whatever is built on top of it
That last one is why an orthodontist planning the case matters. A beautiful set of front teeth built on an uncorrected bite is a restoration waiting to fail.
The process
1. Consultation
What you want changed, in your words, with photographs. It is worth bringing pictures of smiles you like — and equally useful, ones you dislike.
2. Records and analysis
Photographs, a digital scan, radiographs and a bite assessment. Gum and decay problems are identified and dealt with before anything cosmetic begins.
3. Digital design
A proposed design is worked up on the images and models, showing proportions and position rather than a fantasy render. Treat it as a plan, not a photograph of the future.
4. Mock-up
Where the plan involves veneers or extensive restoration, a trial mock-up can be placed directly onto your teeth so you can see and feel the proposed shape in your own mouth before anything irreversible is done. This is the most valuable step in the whole process and the one most likely to change the plan.
5. Treatment
Sequenced properly: gum health first, then any orthodontics, then whitening, then restorations matched to the final shade.
6. Review and maintenance
Bite checks, a night guard where grinding is a factor, and a maintenance plan.
Downtime and recovery
Depends entirely on what the plan includes:
- Planning, records and mock-up: no downtime at all
- Whitening: none, beyond a few days of sensitivity
- Bonding: none
- Veneers or crowns: temporaries for two to three weeks, with care needed on hard and sticky food
- Gum contouring: healing over one to two weeks
- Orthodontics: months of treatment before restorative work begins
- Plan the whole sequence backwards from any event date, generously
Results timeline
Weddings and events — plan the timeline backwards
Work backwards from the date, and be generous. Whitening needs a settling period before shade-matching. Veneers need laboratory time and a fitting appointment. Orthodontics needs months. Gum treatment needs healing time.
As a rough guide: whitening alone, allow a few weeks; bonding, a few weeks; veneers, two to three months; anything orthodontic, six months at an absolute minimum and usually much longer. Booking a smile makeover three weeks before a wedding forces every compromise in the wrong direction.
Being honest about limits
- A mock-up shows the plan. The final result is close to it but not identical
- Very white and perfectly uniform reads as artificial in person, however it photographs
- Restorations are a maintenance commitment for life, not a one-off purchase
- Enamel removed for veneers does not grow back. That decision is permanent
- A smile makeover will not fix untreated gum disease or an unstable bite — those come first
- If your expectations cannot realistically be met, you should be told so before treatment rather than discovering it afterwards
Cost of smile designing in Bandra
Bliss does not publish treatment prices. A figure quoted before an assessment is a guess, and a published price goes stale and then misleads. You are given a written estimate after the examination and before treatment starts, and you are told before anything changes.
What the figure reflects:
- Which treatments the design requires and how many teeth are involved
- Whether orthodontics forms part of the plan
- Materials and laboratory work for any restorations
- The planning and mock-up stage itself
- Foundation treatment needed before cosmetic work begins
- A night guard, where grinding is a factor — which protects the whole investment
Smile designing compared with the alternatives
What a smile makeover might involve
Any combination of whitening, bonding, veneers, crowns, orthodontic alignment, gum contouring and replacement of missing teeth. Two people wanting the same visual outcome may need entirely different treatment.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a smile makeover take?
From a few weeks for whitening and bonding, to two or three months where veneers are involved, to many months where orthodontics is part of the plan. The records appointment gives you a realistic timeline.
Can I see the result before committing?
Yes, where the plan involves veneers or extensive restoration. A trial mock-up is placed onto your teeth so you can see and feel the proposed shape before anything irreversible happens.
Is it painful?
Most of it is not. Tooth preparation is done under local anaesthetic and some sensitivity while temporaries are in place is normal.
How much does it cost?
It depends entirely on which treatments the plan requires. You get a written plan with the total before anything starts.
Will it look fake?
Only if it is designed to. Shade, texture, proportion and translucency are all deliberate choices, and the conversation about how white is too white happens during planning.
I am getting married in six weeks. What can be done?
Whitening and bonding are realistic. Veneers are tight. Orthodontics is not. It is better to say that now than to rush irreversible work.
Do veneers ruin your teeth?
They require permanent enamel removal, which cannot be undone, and the teeth will always need a restoration afterwards. That is a real trade-off, not a scare story — and it is why alternatives are offered first.
