Dental Bridges and Dentures in Bandra West

Dental Bridge treatment cost in mumbai

When teeth are missing, the three ways to replace them are an implant, a bridge or a denture. A bridge is fixed in place and supported by the teeth either side of the gap. A denture is removable and supported by the gums and remaining teeth. Neither is better in the abstract — the right answer depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of the neighbouring teeth, bone and gum health, and what you are willing to trade. At Bliss Skin & Dental Polyclinic in Bandra West, all three options are set out before one is recommended.

Benefits of dental bridges and dentures

Bridges:

  • Fixed in place — nothing to remove, clean separately or worry about at night
  • Restores chewing and speech quickly, in a matter of weeks rather than months
  • Feels close to natural because it is not removable
  • Generally less expensive than an implant, and available where bone volume rules an implant out

Dentures:

  • The least invasive option — no surgery and no preparation of healthy teeth
  • Replaces several or all missing teeth at once
  • The most economical way of restoring a full arch
  • Restores facial support where multiple teeth have been lost
  • Can be stabilised dramatically with two or more implants where the lower denture moves

Areas treated

  • Single gaps with sound teeth either side — the classic bridge indication
  • Multiple adjacent gaps
  • Front regions, where appearance and lip support matter most
  • Posterior regions, where chewing load governs the design
  • Full upper arch, where a complete denture usually holds well by suction
  • Full lower arch, where stability is harder and implant retention is worth considering

Conditions treated

Why replace a missing tooth at all?

  • Neighbouring teeth drift into the gap and the opposing tooth over-erupts, which changes the bite
  • Chewing efficiency drops and the load shifts onto other teeth
  • Speech can be affected, particularly at the front
  • Bone in the area gradually resorbs where nothing is loading it

A single missing back tooth does not always need replacing, and that is a legitimate conversation to have rather than an automatic recommendation.

The procedure, step by step

Fitting a bridge

  • Assessment of the supporting teeth, gums and bite, with radiographs
  • Preparation of the supporting teeth under local anaesthetic
  • Impression or digital scan, shade matching, and a temporary bridge
  • Laboratory manufacture over one to two weeks
  • Try-in to check fit, contacts, bite and appearance before cementation
  • Instruction in cleaning underneath with floss threaders or interdental brushes

Making a denture

  • Initial impressions and assessment of the ridges and remaining teeth
  • Working impressions and bite registration
  • A wax try-in, where tooth position and appearance can still be changed
  • Fitting appointment
  • Adjustment appointments for sore spots — expected, and not a sign anything is wrong
  • Periodic relining as the gums and bone change shape

Downtime and recovery

Adjusting to a denture

  • Expect a few weeks of adaptation. Speech and eating both improve with practice
  • Start with soft food cut small, chewing on both sides at once
  • Reading aloud genuinely helps speech adaptation
  • Sore spots are normal early on and are adjusted — do not endure them, and do not adjust a denture yourself
  • Clean daily over a basin of water with a denture brush, not ordinary toothpaste, which is abrasive
  • Leave them out overnight unless advised otherwise, and store them in water
  • Gums and bone change shape over time, so dentures need relining or remaking periodically

Results timeline

Bridge:

  • Appointment 1: preparation of the supporting teeth, impression or scan, temporary bridge
  • Roughly 1–2 weeks: laboratory manufacture
  • Appointment 2: try-in, checks and cementation
  • Long term: commonly ten to fifteen years, with decay in a supporting tooth the usual reason for failure

Denture:

  • Several appointments over a few weeks for impressions, bite records, try-in and fitting
  • First 1–2 weeks: adaptation, with sore spots normal and adjusted rather than endured
  • Weeks 2–6: speech and eating improve steadily with practice
  • Months to years: gums and bone change shape, so relining or remaking is needed periodically

Cost of dental bridges and dentures in Bandra

Bliss does not publish treatment prices. A figure quoted before an assessment is a guess, and a published price goes stale and then misleads. You are given a written estimate after the examination and before treatment starts, and you are told before anything changes.

What the figure reflects:

  • Whether it is a bridge or a denture, and how many teeth are being replaced
  • For a bridge: the number of units, the material, and whether the supporting teeth need treatment first
  • For a denture: acrylic, cobalt-chromium framework or flexible construction
  • Whether implants are used to retain a denture
  • Laboratory costs, which differ substantially between constructions
  • Future relines, repairs or remakes, which should be factored into any comparison

Dental bridges and dentures compared with the alternatives

Comparing the options honestly

  • Implant: preserves neighbouring teeth and bone; longest timeline; highest cost; needs adequate bone and healthy gums
  • Bridge: fixed and quick; requires irreversible preparation of the neighbouring teeth; typically ten to fifteen years
  • Denture: least invasive and least expensive; removable; least stable; needs periodic adjustment

The correct answer depends on your mouth, your medical history and your budget. You should be given all three with their trade-offs, not steered to one.

Risks, suitability and important considerations

Dental bridges

Conventional bridge

Crowns on the teeth either side of the gap carry a replacement tooth between them. Fixed, stable and feels close to natural. The cost is that the supporting teeth must be prepared, which is irreversible — a significant consideration if those teeth are healthy and untouched.

Resin-bonded (Maryland) bridge

A replacement tooth held by thin wings bonded to the back of the neighbouring teeth. Very conservative and a good option for a single missing front tooth in a young patient. Less robust, and it can debond.

Implant-supported bridge

Supported by implants rather than by natural teeth, so neighbouring teeth are untouched. More time and more cost.

Dentures

Partial dentures

Replace several missing teeth, held by clasps or precision attachments on the remaining teeth. Acrylic partials are the most economical; cobalt-chromium framework partials are thinner, stronger and more comfortable but cost more. Flexible partials are comfortable and aesthetic but harder to adjust and reline.

Complete dentures

Replace a full arch. The upper generally holds well by suction; the lower is more difficult because there is less ridge to hold it and the tongue works against it. This is an honest limitation of the lower complete denture, not a failure of the denture.

Implant-retained overdentures

Two or more implants with attachments that hold a denture securely. For a patient struggling with a loose lower denture, this is very often the most transformative option available and is worth asking about.

Frequently asked questions

Bridge or implant — which should I choose?

An implant avoids cutting down healthy neighbouring teeth and helps preserve bone, but takes months and costs more. A bridge is quicker and often more economical. Where the neighbouring teeth already need crowns, a bridge makes particular sense.

How long does a bridge last?

Commonly ten to fifteen years, sometimes considerably longer. The usual reason for failure is decay in a supporting tooth, so cleaning under the bridge with floss threaders or interdental brushes matters.

Are dentures uncomfortable?

They take a few weeks to adapt to and early sore spots are normal and adjusted. A well-made denture should not be painful once settled.

Why does my lower denture move around?

The lower jaw offers less surface for suction and the tongue and cheeks work against it. This is a genuine limitation. Implant-retained overdentures solve it very effectively.

Can I sleep in my dentures?

Generally leave them out overnight to let the gums recover, and store them in water. Follow the advice specific to your case.

Do dentures need replacing?

Yes. Gums and bone change shape over the years, so relining or remaking is needed periodically — it is not a sign anything was done wrong.

Can I have a bridge if the neighbouring teeth are healthy?

You can, but it means preparing healthy teeth irreversibly. In that situation an implant or a resin-bonded bridge is often the more conservative choice.
