Clear Aligners in Bandra West, Mumbai
Clear aligners are a series of removable transparent trays, each slightly different from the last, that move teeth in small increments. They are worn for most of the day and taken out to eat and clean. At Bliss Skin & Dental Polyclinic in Bandra West, aligner treatment is planned and supervised by Dr. Farhan Parkar, MDS (Orthodontics). Aligners suit many cases well and some cases poorly, and the difference is established from records at the planning stage rather than from a photograph.
Benefits of clear aligners
- Barely visible at conversational distance, which for many adults is the difference between having treatment and not
- Removable for eating, brushing and photographs
- No brackets or wires, so no ulceration, no wax and no emergency bracket repairs
- Easier oral hygiene than fixed braces, and a correspondingly lower risk of decalcification
- Fewer chair visits than fixed braces for most cases
- The movement sequence is planned digitally before the first tray is issued
Areas treated
- Upper arch, lower arch or both, depending on the plan
- Front teeth — the most commonly treated and the most predictable
- Premolars — well handled in most cases
- Molars — more limited, particularly where significant rotation or vertical movement is required
- Attachments placed on selected teeth wherever the tray needs something to grip
Conditions treated
Aligners are used for:
- Mild to moderate crowding
- Spacing and gaps, including a midline diastema
- Relapse after earlier orthodontic treatment where retainers were stopped
- Mild bite discrepancies, assessed case by case
- Adults who need treatment to be discreet
- Pre-restorative alignment before veneers or crowns, so less tooth structure has to be removed
Significant rotations, large vertical movements and substantial bite correction are assessed carefully and are often better served by fixed appliances.
The procedure, step by step
A digital scan of your teeth is used to plan the sequence of movements. A laboratory manufactures the tray series from that plan. You change to the next tray on a set schedule, and attend review appointments less often than a braces patient would.
Most cases also need attachments — small tooth-coloured bumps bonded to certain teeth so the tray has something to grip. They are removed at the end. Some cases need interproximal reduction, a very small amount of enamel polished between teeth to create space.
Downtime and recovery
Wear time is the whole game
Aligners need to be worn for the number of hours prescribed each day — typically most of the day and night, out only for meals, drinks other than water, and cleaning. Treatment that falls behind almost always falls behind for this reason. If you know you will struggle with it, say so at the planning stage; fixed braces may serve you better and there is no judgement in that.
Living with aligners
- Expect tightness for a day or two after each new tray. That is the treatment working.
- A slight lisp for the first few days is common and passes.
- Remove them for anything other than water. Tea, coffee and fizzy drinks will stain the trays and trap sugar and acid against the enamel.
- Clean the trays daily — not with hot water, which distorts them.
- Keep them in their case when out. The single most common way to lose a set is wrapping them in a tissue at a restaurant.
- Attachments make the trays slightly more visible than the marketing photographs suggest. Worth knowing in advance.
Results timeline
- Scan to first tray: usually a few weeks while the laboratory manufactures the series
- First 1–2 days of each new tray: tightness, which is the treatment working
- First weeks: a slight lisp that settles, and the first visible movement
- Through the series: steady change, provided the wear schedule is met
- End of the planned series: refinement trays are common and are normal, not a failure
- Retention: immediately after the final tray, and ongoing
Duration depends entirely on the case and on wear time. Treatment that falls behind almost always falls behind for the second reason.
Cost of clear aligners in Bandra
Case complexity, the number of trays in the planned series, the aligner system used, whether refinements are anticipated, and the retention phase. Prices are not published because they depend on the plan, and the plan depends on the records.
Clear aligners compared with the alternatives
What aligners do well, and where braces are better
Aligners handle mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and many relapse cases very capably, and for adults who cannot have visible brackets they are often the difference between having treatment and not having it.
Current systematic review evidence finds aligners effective across a range of cases while also finding outcomes less consistent than fixed appliances for complex movements — significant rotations, large vertical movements, and some bite corrections. Fixed braces also work regardless of whether the patient co-operates, which aligners do not.
The honest framing: this is a clinical decision informed by your preference, not a preference decision dressed up as clinical advice. If your case genuinely suits both, you choose.
Risks, suitability and important considerations
Risks and limitations
- Slower or incomplete movement where wear time is inconsistent
- Need for refinement trays at the end of the planned series — common, not a failure
- Some cases part-way through may need to be converted to fixed braces to finish properly
- Tooth sensitivity and temporary speech changes
- Relapse without retainers, exactly as with braces
- Direct-to-consumer aligners ordered online without an orthodontist examining you carry real risks — unrecognised gum disease, untreated decay, and movements planned without radiographs. This is the one area where the cheaper route is genuinely a poorer one.

Frequently asked questions
Are clear aligners as effective as braces?
For many cases, yes. For complex rotations, large vertical movements and some bite corrections, fixed braces remain more predictable — that is what the current review evidence shows. The records appointment establishes which applies to you.
How many hours a day do I have to wear them?
Most of the day and night, out only for meals, drinks other than water, and cleaning. Treatment that runs late almost always runs late because of wear time.
Are they completely invisible?
Close to it at conversational distance, but attachments bonded to some teeth are visible up close. That is worth knowing before you start rather than after.
Do aligners hurt?
They feel tight for a day or two after each tray change rather than painful. Most people describe it as pressure.
Can I eat with them in?
No. Remove them for all food and for any drink other than water.
What if I lose a tray?
Call the clinic. Depending on where you are in the series you may be asked to go back to the previous tray or forward to the next, but that decision should be made by the clinic and not by you.
Are cheap online aligners worth considering?
They avoid the cost of supervision, which is the part that catches gum disease, decay and root problems before teeth are moved. Our view is that it is a poor trade, and the cases we see that have gone wrong are consistent on this.
Will I need retainers afterwards?
Yes. Retention is part of treatment, not an afterthought.
Who carries out this treatment
Orthodontic treatment at Bliss is planned and carried out by Dr. Farhan Parkar, BDS, MDS (Orthodontics), Maharashtra State Dental Council A-18082. An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed an additional three-year full-time postgraduate specialisation in moving teeth and correcting jaw relationships — his was at Manipal, completed in 2013.
That distinction matters here. Orthodontic treatment carried out as a general-practice add-on and orthodontic treatment planned by a specialist are not the same service, however similar the appliance looks.
